The ability of smart technologies and systems to increase buildings’ operating efficiency is widely understood. But the extent to which they are being deployed, the building types most commonly adopting them, and the forces that push stakeholders toward or away from smart buildings technologies have been difficult to quantify. This first-of-its-kind report from the publishers of Smart Buildings Technology comprises data gathered from building owners and operators, AEC professionals, and systems integrators. The report details which building systems are most frequently equipped with smart capabilities as well as the systems most likely to be equipped with those capabilities in the future. The data includes breakdowns by property type. The report also rates the importance of smart-system benefits, users’ expectations of those benefits, and influences that may discourage smart buildings technology adoption.
