The laser markets recovered strongly in 2011 from the previous down years, and since then, laser sales have been steadily been rising, at least in most areas. Last year (2013) saw strong revenues in communications, displays, sensors & instruments, medical, and marking; each grew their revenue by 7% or more. Certain other segments of the laser market – military, R&D, optical storage, and lithography – had particularly weak results. Overall worldwide laser revenue in 2013 was up just under 2%, but this number alone can’t begin to describe fast-changing dynamics of the laser marketplace.
